Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) - A Word From Willie The Wire & Cable Guy

Many customers looking at our SEOOW & SJEOOW Portable Cords call in to Wire & Cable To Go asking what's Thermosplastic Elastomer (TPE) insulation?

Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) is a fine blend of polymers containing containing both thermoplastic & elastomeric properties.  When processed & combined these properties create a rubbery and plastic material.

Overall, thermoplastic elastomer is used in SEOOW & SJEOOW Portable Cords as an insulation jacket that contain both rubber & plastic characteristics.

According to Coleman Cable who pioneered the SEOOW & SJEOOW cable, prior to 1981 there were two basic types of cable - Rubber (SOW) & PVC (STOW).  Coleman created the SEOOW & SJEOOW by constructing the cable using Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE) technology giving customers an excellent option of a cord containing the chemical resistance of PVC (plastic) & the flexible characteristics of rubber.

TPE gives customers in the commercial, industrial & construction fields a flexible portable cord that is durable, abrasion resistant,  light in weight, easy to strip & fully recyclable!
