14/3 Black SJOOW Cord for Extension Cords - "DIY Stingers"

14-3 SJOOW Cord - Stingers

All of us here at Wire And Cable Your Way are loving this photo and informative testimony from a super talented video production professional out in Colorado.

Our customer Brian B. purchased our 14/3 SJOOW Cord to use as "stingers".

Here is what Brian had to say:

In the cinematography world, extension cords are called “stingers.” And just as with well-made lighting and grip equipment, heavy-duty stingers made of quality materials will last for decades of daily use on-location as well as in the studio.

I am a fulltime, full-service video production professional, and produce industrial and corporate films for clients all over the Colorado. So it made sense to me to make myself some quality stingers that I find at professional venues, and throw-away those orange and yellow “garden tool” extension cords that I've used through the years.

I do have a bit of a “DIY” background, having remodeled my own homes over the years to provide some “sweat equity” via framing, plumbing, wiring, and finish work. So, I knew that a “DIY Stingers” project would be a fairly simple exercise for me. I wanted to replicate the black, heavy-duty rubber stingers seen on sound stages and production houses, and also build a few “stage drop boxes” that can be found in theaters and live music venues... basically a two-gang metal box attached to flexible cord, with appropriate strain relief.

I purchased 150' of 14/3 black SJOOW from Wire & Cable to Go, and was very pleased that it arrived on my doorstep just two days later! I was also impressed with the quality of the Carolprene product. The Tru-Mark sequential footage made it a snap to pay-out cord at my desired lengths of runs. A few trips to the hardware store gave me everything I needed to build three stingers and two drop boxes for use on my filming locations, and I still have plenty of cord left over for any foreseeable project in the future, kept on a pro-looking spool in my studio.

t I'll upload to my YouTube channel, to show other video pros how to “roll their own.” Whenever I need more cable or wire, I'll definitely buying it online through wireandcableyourway.com, as your prices and delivery speed are wonderful, and you carry great products.

All the best,
Brian Brown

Thanks for the words Brian! Glad everything worked out and we are very happy to have you as a customer!

2nd Place Winner - 18/2 SJOOW Portable Cord for LED Lights

18/2 SJOOW LED Lighting

And the 2nd Place Winner of Wire And Cable Your Way's April Photo contest is Matthew Tucci from Omaha, Nebraska!  Matthew sent in this photo above of his keyboard stand using our 18/2 SJOOW Portable Cord to power the LED Lights.

Here is what Matty had to say:
My name is Matty-T. I tour in the band Blu Simon. Last summer I decided to build a stand for my Moog synthesizer that would really stand out on stage. I used aluminum extrusion from MK North America to build the telescoping center support. The unique T-Slot shape worked well as lighting channel, which I filled with high density LED lights. I then fashioned a tray and legs out of steel. The steel pieces were coated in plasti-dip to grip and protect the instrument and floor. The tray includes a tightening mechanism to hold the keyboard in place as it rotates. The tray is mounted to the stand with a ball joint from Maui Mount that allows for angling toward the audience and movement throughout the performance. The cable (18/2 SJOOW) used to run the LED's was purchased from Wire and Cable Your Way.

Thanks for the submitting your photo Matty and we will definitely have to check out your band when they come to town!
