As the name suggests, multi-conductor cables have more than one conductor. There can be as few as two conductors or more than 100. The construction of the cable can be varied, as the conductors can be twisted into pairs, triads, quads, etc. and even be laid concentrically throughout the cable.

Applications — Computer and communications industries have high use of multi-conductor and paired cables. Other industries include: industrial applications, automation controls, aerospace applications, signal and data applications, military applications, transit applications, power and high voltage applications, amongst others.

Build of Cables — The cables are typically built to the specifications to which they are being used. For example, factors such as voltage, temperature, and environment are all taken into account when designing the cable. 

The type of shielding used also takes into consideration the above factors and desired functionality of use.
