What is the Price of #6 Gauge Copper Wire?

Do you have a project that requires the use of #6 gauge stranded wire?  Trying to figure out what type of 6 awg wire you need & how much the electrical wire is going to cost?

If so, Wire & Cable To Go has several different options of #6 gauge wires to choose from!

1.  New in stock is our #6 AWG XHHW-2 Aluminum Building Wire - Available by the foot!

CLICK HERE TO VIEW #6 XHHW-2 ALUMINUM BUILDING PRICING

2. Most popular 6 gauge wire we carry is a building wire called #6 AWG THHN - Stranded Copper Building Wire.

Offered by the foot with a wide selection of colors, THHN comes in a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation with a nylon jacket.  THHN wire can be used in a conduit but is not rated for direct burial alone. Our 6 awg THHN is also THWN-2 dual rated which means this conductor is appropriate for use in wet or dry locations at temperatures not to exceed 90° C or not to exceed 75°C in oil or coolants.  It is rated for 55 amps @ 60°C.

3. If you are looking for #6 awg copper wire that can be directly buried into the ground without a conduit we recommend our 6 awg XLP-USE2-RHH-RHW-2 Building Wire which is rated for direct burial.

4. We also carry a few multi-conductor 6 awg wires such as the #6-3 THHN-PVC Tray Cable with Ground.  Tray Cables are also rated for direct burial and are sunlight resistant.  These Tray Cables are pretty much multi-conductor THHN wires all under one jacket meant to be buried in the ground without a conduit.

5. If your #6 gauge wire needs to be flexible we have several options as well!

Below are a few Flexible #6 AWG Cables we offer that depending on your application specs may work great!

We cut all these cables by the foot at no extra charge and ship them out the same day when ordered before 3pm cst.  Most customers receive their order within 1-3 business days due to our shipping locations across the country.

3 AWG THHN Wire for Tesla's Electric Cars

THHN Wire For Tesla Electric Car

We want to send a thanks to our friend and customer, Jay, down in Texas for sending in this photo of his new Tesla car being charged.  Jay needed to buy #3 awg THHN building wire in order for him to charge up his new electric car.

According to Jay:

" I had to hook up the fastest sports car on the market . 0- 60 in 3.9 seconds! Tesla has the fastest super chargers out there, takes 30 minutes to recharge, BUT you need 100 amp #3AWG wire to do it!"

Jay also sent us a link on some interesting facts about the history of electric cars:

Did you know that the first vehicles were electric and not combustion?
“Electric cars were popular in the late 19th century and early 20th century, until advances in internal combustion engine technology and mass production of cheaper gasoline vehicles led to a decline in the use of electric drive vehicles”  Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_car

We appreciate the info, Jay, and look forward to seeing the progress of electric cars in our country!

THHN and Welding Cable for Wiring Solar Array Projects

solar with thhn and welding cable

We really enjoy these pics that were sent over from our friend Michael in Southern California. Michael did a massive solar array installation on his home & decided to buy #2 THHN Copper Building Wire along with 4/0 welding cable for his battery cables.

He also created an entire blog about the process of buying & installing all parts for his solar project. Michael gave us a great recommendation which was fun to see and greatly appreciated !

Here is what Michael had to say:

"The wire run from the panels to the charge controllers is over 180 feet.  Sourcing the wire for this run took some time.  I initially was going to run 4 gauge wire.  The plans call for 4 gauge wire.  When I went back and rechecked my calculations, I realized the voltage drop would be almost 5%.  Not acceptable.  3 gauge wire would do it but I decided that I wasn’t going to take any chances and ordered 2 gauge wire.  When it comes to wire, I have found there is only one source,  Wire And Cable Your Way.  They have the best service, the best prices and they ship for free on orders over $1000 and they are FAST!  When I realized I needed to run a thicker wire. I called up Seth and he got on it.  He also called back to make sure I was taken care of."

We recommend you checking out his blog if you are interested in learning about the process of installing a solar panel for your home. It's very informative!

It was fun doing business with you, Michael!

BTW - if you are planning any electrical installation at home, we highly recommend you consult with a local electrician first.  They can advise you on current state electrical codes and which type of cables are suitable for the application.

Wire & Cable For Wind Farms & Renewable Energy Projects

wind turbine farm

We here at Wire & Cable To Go take pride in supplying wire & cable for renewable energy/solar energy projects. From small home solar panel installations to big wind farm projects, we share a strong passion for clean renewable energy!

With that being said, we were very happy to receive these great photos from our friends & customers out in Hawaii who sent the above photos of wind turbines on a wind farm project they worked on for over a year. Their mission was to bring clean renewable energy to thousands of homes in the area and from what I hear their mission was accomplished!

They gave us last look on the job and we were able to ship them thousands of feet of Tray Cable (THHN/PVC) & XHHW MCM Cable on the same day they ordered. Plus, they needed the cable to arrive in 2 days so the project wouldn't be held up and we expedited the shipping with no problems at all!

Are you working on a wind turbine or solar panel project?

If so, we recommend checking the specs on the application and see what types of wires are needed. While some applications require PV Solar Wire & USE-2 Solar Wire others do permit the use for the cables below which we cut by the foot at no extra charge, and can ship out the same day!

If you have questions about your solar energy project please do not hesitate to contact us!

Solar Panels and THHN/THWN

thhn-solar

Wire & Cable To Go continues to help customers and their solar energy projects.

We would like to give our friend Rick a BIG THANKS for using our 1/0 THHN/THWN for his inverter on his solar panel project.  The panel is now up and running using 10.4 AC KW.  We shipped out his order the same day it was placed, making the exact cuts he requested, and he received the cable the very next day.
